About Our School

INTRODUCTION

Established in 1980 as an independent elementary school under charter of the Province of Ontario, The Mabin School is co-educational and non-denominational. We are operated by the Torch Educational Foundation, a registered non-profit organization.

Subjects are taught under guidelines laid down by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

We are committed to developing confident, independent learners through a child-centred approach to education in which children’s developmental levels, needs, interests, and learning styles are taken into account. All aspects of the child’s development — social, emotional, intellectual, and physical — are considered, given equal importance and nurtured.

Our primary objective is the acquisition of a solid academic foundation in a warm, secure and enriching environment. Each grade has specific goals for academic skills and knowledge and children’s interests often form the focal points through which they are studied. Children are encouraged to apply their curiosity and creativity towards solving problems and making decisions.

Read More about the Mabin experienceProgress is closely monitored and programs are individualized to ensure that each child is able to maximize his or her potential. The child’s eight years at The Mabin School are viewed as a whole. Each year’s learning is based on what occured before and the curriculum is seen as cumulative. This approach instills a sense of responsibility and provides a degree of independence that permits children to develop strong, positive self-images and a healthy respect for the needs of others.
