The Mabin School was founded in 1980 by Geraldine Mabin.
She was born and educated in England where she taught for nine years
before coming to Toronto. She joined the Institute of Child Study,
University of Toronto in 1971, teaching children and mentoring Early
Childhood student teachers for nine years, the latter three in the
position of Principal. While Gerry retired as Principal of our school
in 1998, she remains closely involved.
Formerly, the vice principal at John English Jr. Middle School, Kim McInnes is excited about her new role as Principal of The Mabin School and eager to build upon the successes of the school's first 30 years. Kim has been part of the education community for 15 years as a teacher, curriculum leader and administrator. She holds a B.A. and B. Ed. from the University of Toronto, as well as an M.B.A. in Marketing from York University. Prior to her career in education, she held leadership roles with Hydro One and IBM Canada.
Kim lives in the school neighbourhood and has a long-standing connection with the independent school system in Toronto. Her love of children and her passion for excellence in education make her the ideal leader to continue the mission and values of Mabin.
Our school is operated by The Torch Educational Foundation,
a non-profit organization. It is governed by a Board of Directors
whose responsibilities include establishing the school’s policies
and procedures, overseeing the school’s fiscal management, and
the setting of academic fees. The Board consists of parents, teachers,
consultants and principals from other schools who meet at least six
times per fiscal year.
