The Mabin Library Information Centre is staffed by our librarian and contains a fully catalogued and well rounded selection of books for all grades.
Primary grades learn to use the library during weekly visits; junior grades use the library to practice their information skills and to extend their individual reading interests in a quiet, resource-filled space.
Parents are welcome to drop by the library before or after classes and are encouraged to browse the collection and borrow books. We have a growing collection of parenting books, a selection of Read Aloud books as well as periodicals, videos, and CDs.
The Library hours are:
Monday: Noon to 3:45 p.m.
Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Look for the Friends of the Mabin Library table at the September BBQ. Meet our librarian and learn more about the library and opportunities to volunteer. The Friends of the Mabin Library is a parent group working to
strengthen and promote the library. It organizes events throughout the year and supports programs that connect children and their families to books. The group meets four or five times a year.

Help build our library collection. The Birthday Book program enhances our library and classroom collections and gives you the opportunity to donate a book in honour of your child’s birthday.
Share your book with your child’s class
When you have chosen a book, you are encouraged to come into the classroom with your child to read your birthday book. Your child’s teacher will forward your book to the library for cataloguing and a bookplate inscribed with your child’s name will be placed on the inside front cover.

Developed by the Ontario Library Association, The Forest of Reading is a series of programs encouraging students in their love of reading.
Over the years, what started as just one program,The Silver Birch Awards, for readers in Grades 4 to 6, has now expanded to include programs for various age ranges, from primary through to adult. Now, more than 250,000 readers across Ontario participate each year.
All students at Mabin are given an opportunity to participate in either Blue Spruce (primary-Grade 2 picture books), Silver Birch (Grades 3-6 fiction, non-fiction) or Red Maple (Grades 5-8 fiction, non-fiction).
At the end of the reading period, excitement mounts as the students prepare to vote for their favourite author.
The cross-Ontario vote takes place towards the end of April. The votes are tabulated and the winners for each category are announced in mid May. More information can be found here.
