Parking At And Around Mabin

Parking (and the lack of it) is unfortunately an ongoing issue at The Mabin School.  We are located in an ideal, central location and it is imperative that we maintain good relations with our immediate neighbours and surrounding community.  In order to achieve this, we ask that all parents and caregivers respect our parking procedures:

MABIN SCHOOL PARKING DOS AND DON’TS

• Parking is not permitted at any time on Poplar Plains Road. It is illegal to leave your car unattended on this road. Parking on Cottingham Street is not permitted before 12:00 p.m.  Parking on all other surrounding side streets is not permitted before 10:00 a.m. except on Boulton Drive, one street west of the school. Therefore, a quick “park and dash” into the school is NOT an option during morning drop off. Parents wishing to accompany students into school in the morning should park on Boulton Drive and walk over.

• Please do not park or stop in the posted No-Stopping Zone in front of #47 Poplar Plains Road. Emergency vehicles must have access to this house at all times due to a life threatening family illness.

• For safety reasons, please do not let students out of the car on the traffic side of the school .

• Please do not block driveways.

• Please do not park on the corner of Cottingham St. and Poplar Plains Rd. (after 12 p.m.) and in doing so, block the view of turning traffic and students crossing the road.


MORNING DROP-OFF
Due to the neighbourhood traffic restrictions, we ask that parents drop-off their children in the morning with a minimal stopping time in front of the school. For safety reasons, children should exit the car on the school side. A parent volunteer, part of our Morning Greeter Program, will see to it that the child enters the school property safely.


MORNING GREETER DUTY
We request that parents give one morning a year to assist in the safe drop-off of students. Parents will receive information on the date of their duty several weeks prior to the duty. Weekly reminders are also posted in our weekly newsletter, The Choosing Times. This is an important responsibility and parents must make arrangements with another family to cover this duty if they are unavailable on the date indicated.

Morning Greeter Duty beings at 8:15 a.m. and entails greeting the students on the sidewalk in the front of the school and helping them to get out of their cars quickly and safely. This includes: opening the car door, helping the children out of the car, helping them with their knapsacks and lunch bags, closing the car door and directing them to the gate. Parents who are dropping off are not permitted to leave their cars unattended on Poplar Plains Road.

If your child/children are assisting you on your morning of duty, please make sure that they stay inside of the front gate. Your children may help escort the Kindergarten students to the back yard.


PICK-UP
School ends at 3:30 p.m. for all grades. Parents are requested to pick-up their children on time. As always, parking is not allowed at any time along Poplar Plains Road outside the school gate. Therefore we provide two Pick-Up options for parents and caregivers:

1) If you wish to meet your child(ren) in the schoolyard at the end of day, please park legally on any one of the side streets and walk to the school. Please be considerate of our neighbours and not block driveways.

Or

2) Please tell your child(ren) to watch for your car at 3:30 p.m. When the teacher at the gate sees your car pull up, (s)he will let your child(ren) leave the school premises. Our Traffic Volunteer or a Mabin teacher will walk your child(ren) to your car.
